Survived my first screen freeze!

Postby graycyn » Tue Aug 09, 2011, 10:51 am   [Post 1]

Man, but it was scary! I had just started a book, after finishing the preceding one in the series and was about 12 pages in, when suddenly, I couldn't turn the page. I tried again, no dice. I tried to turn back a page, go to home, enter options, nothing! Couldn't put it into standby or turn it off.

I was so tired though, I couldn't deal with it, so I put it on the bookshelf beside my bed and went to sleep. Still frozen this AM. So I found a needle (I seem to have no traditional paperclips, must rectify!) and pushed the reset. Slid the power switch. Nothing. Tried again, nothing. Fired up the computer, got online, googled, OK, had tip to hold the reset for 5 seconds, THEN slide the power switch. That did it!

And my proofreading notes had survived... I was afraid I'd lose them.

But my battery, which had just gotten down to two bars before the freeze, changed to one bar after the reset! Is that normal? I have it charging now, but usually it goes forever on two bars before it goes down to one bar. And even then it can last a good while before I see the message about charging.

Me too! Let's just say I took my notes and applied the changes to my epub file before anything could happen. It *would* be frustrating if I'd lost my notes and had to proofread half a book over again!

Yep I had my first one a couple of weeks ago. Took a couple of soft reset tries & it was up & working. I'm not sure if I lost a bar or not. Don't remember it. Anyway I'm glad you're back to reading & you didn't lose anything.

 My first (and second) freezes were met with a much less calm attitude, even though all I had at stake was what page I was on...
If good things come to those who wait, isn't procrastination a virtue?

Page number wouldn't worry me as much... I rarely used bookmarks with paper books, I usually just remembered the number. I'm losing the habit somewhat with the e-readers, but as often as not, I glance and memorize my page number still, LOL!

I'm just happy the Sony came back to life again! I do have the Sony warranty AND an extended Square Trade warranty on it, but still. I want this device to last YEARS.
